Volume 1, Issue 8: Photos and Other News From Readers

Where does Larry Master find this stuff, anyway? This is a new in the box Whizzer ashtray from the 40’s. The picture says it all.
Another rare find – is this like-new Whizzer mechanical pencil. The tiny bike floats back and forth in a fluid-filled cylinder when you tip the pencil. The inscription reads Whizzer Bike Motors

Readers send their Martin in photos of Roadrunners

Homer Knapp sends this photo of one of a pair of NOS Martin Roadrunner bikes that have been in storage since 1948! The letter on following page describes mounting details for Marman Twin engine kits.
Photos of two more Martins found in a bike shop in Indianapolis by Warren Poole. One is equipped with a rear band brake on similar to a Doodlebug.
A keen eye will pick up that the bike in foreground is set up with the optional 26″ wheels, rather than the 24″ factory configuration.
John Koehnke sent these photos of a very original unrestored Roadrunner in his collection. The bike is metallic blue, with stainless steel fenders and a near-perfect leather saddle.
Details of the Martin spring fork. As described in Issue 6, these forks were also sold through bike dealers for non-motorized bicycles.

New OHV Whizzers are running!

You never know what you’ll find in the back of Al Blum’s pickup truck. Here’s Al, with his newly completed overhead valve Whizzer using the Cyclone head from Tony Vershoore (see • issue 3). I got to ride the bike, and Wow, does it move out!
The chassis is a 26″ Schwinn straightbar, with modification work by Joe Cargola. The lower bar has been removed to make room for the tall head, and some nifty gussets added for strength. Custom tank is by John Kage. Al is running this bike with a standard Carter Model N carburetor. Other than the bolt-on head, the engine is a stock H. Tony is running his bike with a Mikuni carb, and says the bike is really hot (like in fast!).
